Get the Cool Girl Look: Silk Scarves

If there's one trend I've seen in Europe that I can seriously get behind, it's scarves. Silk scarves are back people. And with a vengeance. A simple, chic, and ultra-cool vengeance. Leandra Medine over at Man Repeller has also been rocking silk scarves in creative ways for a while now and everyone has just started to get the bright silky picture. I'm lovin' it. Throw one of these scarves over an otherwise simple outfit and you're ready for NYFW, or even better Milan Fashion Week (shoutout to the temporary hometown)! 

Everyone has a few of these square scarves tucked in the back of their closet, or their mom sure does, but with absolutely no clue how to wear it. Well, here's your guide and it's simple: Any way you can imagine. Around your neck and over a striped shirt, tied on your wrist, wrapped around the strap of a handbag, substituted for a belt, go wild. Think monochrome or mismatching patterns. Seriously everything goes.

I'm dying over this trend and if I bring one thing back from Italy I'm determined for it to be a bright silk scarf. Vintage scarves are all over the Milano markets every weekend and not to mention in so many beautiful store windows. So while you might not be in Europe, you're still in luck. Bright Blue Pants a Make Her Dance

Okay, so maybe these pants don't make me "dance" but they definitely make me feel great. And that's what clothes are supposed to be about right? Right! 

I came across these gems at a vintage designer store down the street from my apartment. As you might know I'm living in Milan, Italy this summer so quality fashion picks are not hard to find but... finding them at a reasonable price is the kicker. The little store is tucked in the Brera District, traditionally known for great boutiques, and is called Il Cameo. The mother-daughter duo who own it have an eye for some of the best vintage Chanel, Gucci, Prada and YSL I've ever seen. For weeks I was lusting after a Chanel sweater shell from the 60's but had to talk myself off the ledge. Fortunately, the Il Cameo duo has taken a liking to me and my constant drop-ins and kindly knocked down the price of these pants to a steal! Go me and my decent Italian language skills!

To keep the focus on the star of the show, I like to pair these palazzos with a simple black top. The halter cut of this Banana Republic top {similar here, here, here} balances a little skin with the weight of the pants to keep this outfit cool both in temperature and in style. While these pants might not pair with everything, a simple black halter looks great on everyone and is super versatile. It's a great staple to have in your closet and if you don't own one already click the links above and invest!

Even with a big print, small details are everything. I'm carrying my Kate Spade color blocked crossbody that's the perfect size to fit everything I need for a day of traveling, dainty jewelry including one of my favorite Kate Spade Saturday necklaces (RIP) and simple black wedges. Would you believe me if I said these were Dr. Scholls? I couldn't believe it either! They're simple, stylish, match with everything and I've survived miles of Italian cobblestone streets in them. I've been super impressed. Go Dr. Scholls!

Fall Trends: Love or Leave it?

Today I'm looking back on the recent fall trends. There are definitely some styles that stick out to me because I really love them and others that I silently cringe at. Here are my thoughts on five recent trends!

Dark Lips // LOVE IT
I'm loving these overly dark lips for the Fall. It makes a great contrast to everyone's end of the year pale skin and completes a darker outfit. I'm definitely digging all of these deep reds! Totally Love!

Belted Scarves // LEAVE IT
I've seen this trend amongst multiple blogs recently and I'm not sure I'm a fan. I understand that scarves are a necessity but these really defeat the point of their purpose of keeping your neck warm. The added bulk to the outfit isn't amazingly flattering either. I'm going to leave this one.

Styled Track Pants // LOVE IT
This trend took a while for me to get behind but now I really like it. This definitely isn't an acceptable work attire but I love the contrast between formal and casual. It's the perfect look for those lazy Saturdays and I'm loving it.

Printed Leggings // LEAVE IT
I have really tried to like this trend but I just can't. First off, these leggings do not flatter any body type, the horizontal stripes on your legs is a big no-no for me. Also, they look like pajama pants. I can get behind these if they're for lounging around the house but I don't think these should be a staple piece of your fall wardrobe. I'm leaving this one.

Sweaters over Maxis // LOVE IT
I really love this trend but I have yet to have the guts to pull it off. There is a difficult line to balance here by keeping a slouchy sweater but one that is just fitted enough to lose the appearance of a sack. I'm all about extending the life of your clothes throughout seasons and this is a great way to get the most out of your closet. Love it!

Take It or Leave it: Jelly Shoes?

Can you believe it? Jelly shoes are back! When I was little I was always sporting these but now that they're back I'm not sure if I'm going to be jumping back on this bandwagon or not. They've been popping up at all kinds of stores like ModCloth and Urban Outfitters but I haven't seen anyone wear them yet. I think they'd be a fun piece to sport at an outdoor concert this summer but I'm not truly sure if I'd wear them more than once. Their whimsy is pretty tempting though! I think if I were going to buy them I'd do it big and choose these heeled pink jellies.
